FST SMaRT Children in Need Our Day of Action and Fun!
Friday 14th November dawned with a forecast of showers and sunny intervals. Not ideal weather for washing cars. But that was what the team at SMaRT had decided they would do to raise funds for Pudsey and Children in Need.

The first hour was spent setting the yard up ready for the arrival of vehicles, ensuring that there was plenty of water, sponges and buckets available and those who were donning fancy dress could get ready.

At 10 o’clock a large number of the dressed up team were stood at the traffic lights encouraging motorists to come and get their car washed or just to donate money to Pudsey.

Despite the showers of rain, the washing continued and as you can see from the photos our two nuns with dirty habits and even the King himself got involved.

At 11.30 the Mayor of Salford arrived to be greeted by Mike Baldwin and to have his car washed whilst Stuart Owen explained what SMaRT was about.
With a quick break for lunch and some warm food to fight against the biting winds, everyone was back outside. Business and the collecting of coins from passing motorists was brisker now and the collecting buckets started to get heavy and the buckets of washing water were being refilled more often.

But by 3 o’clock the cold winds won and everyone came in to prevent hypothermia and frostbite to their hands.

Whilst everyone got themselves a warm drink the admin team counted the money up and the result was finally announced. A total of £212.58 was raised for Children in Need.

A big ‘well done’ to everyone who helped on the day and thank you to our sponsors Partco for providing the buckets, sponges and shampoo, Jim Barlow Ltd. for the tea, coffee and biscuits as refreshments and St. Luke’s Amateur Dramatic Society for the loan of the costumes. Everyone agreed it was a great day and we’ll definitely do something next year.
